Christopher Hobbs Receives 2005 NNFA Clinician Award

SANTA CRUZ, CALIF. (May 26, 2005) – Christopher Hobbs, Rainbow Light’s Director of Herbal Formulation and world-renowned fourth-generation herbalist, botanist and author, will be presented with the coveted NNFA Clinician Award, honoring his 30 years of exceptional work in holistic, integrative medicine, at July’s Natural Nutritional Foods Association 2005 Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas. Rainbow Light has some exciting plans in development for later in the year to further celebrate Christopher’s exemplary career achievements, and to show appreciation for over 20 years of his exclusive collaboration with Rainbow Light in creating scientifically advanced, holistically balanced nutritional supplements that combine evidence-based nutrient profiles with wholesome foods and herbs.

The NNFA Clinician Award recognizes licensed healthcare practitioners whose work exemplifies the best standards of responsible complementary and alternative medicine. Mr. Hobbs is a licensed acupuncturist, working in an integrated practice with an M.D. in Davis, California, as a primary health care provider, and wasis the director of the Christopher Hobbs Clinic of Phytotherapy for many years, where he is a primary health care provider.

“Christopher brings tremendous credibility, dedication and expertise to our research and development team,” says Linda Kahler, President of Rainbow Light. “We place a premium on scientific research-backed formulations, and he has quite literally written the book on the safe and effective use of herbs.” Mr. Hobbs has indeed authored more than 20 books on the medicinal use of herbs and other dietary supplements, helping to make herbalism accessible to a larger audience in the United States, including the popular Vitamins for Dummies, Herbal Medicine for Dummies, and Peterson Field Guide for Medicinal Plants of the Western US, co-authored with Steven Foster. He is a contributing editor of the Botanical Safety Handbook, which classifies hundreds of herbs and is considered the authoritative guide to herbal safety, and is also the North American editor and co-author of The Pocket Guide to Herbal Medicine, written by a German doctor as a reference for clinicians.

The NNFA award comes as Mr. Hobbs works toward his PhD. in ethnopharmacology and ethnobotony, investigating botanical solutions to the growing concern over antibiotic drug resistance and its serious health implications. “Applying traditional herbal medicine to modern health concerns is something I regularly do in my practice,” says Mr. Hobbs, “so it’s very exciting to research the potential that herbal medicine offers on a larger scale.”

Mr. Hobbs serves on the advisory board of the American Botanical Council, and co-founded the American Herbalists Guild, the only national organization for professional herbalists. He also co-founded the American School of Herbalism, is a member of the Society for Medicinal Plants, the Society for Economic Botany and the Society of Ethnobiology. His contributions to www.allherb.com have enabled the website to become a successful herbal resource. He has lectured at Bastyr University, Yale and Stanford Medical Schools and regularly taughteaches as part of the academic staff at the University of California, Santa Cruz, as well as currently speaking at numerous schools, conventions and symposia throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.
